Although Qatar is prominent on the global cultural and political stage, the visual landscape of the nation often remains obscure in the mind's eye of international audiences. The introductory section of the exhibition seeks to address this by offering a vignette of contemporary Qatar in 50 photographs.
The challenge of capturing an authentic picture of Qatar – human, built and natural – depends on balancing images of frequently photographed places with more unusual sights. The photographs exhibited here therefore include well-known views of Doha, the desert and key landmarks, alongside more closely observed glimpses of other aspects of life in Qatar, taken from less familiar perspectives.
