Benedict Barbour is a graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art and Royal Drawing School, London. In Doha he has worked for the Msheireb Arts Centre and Qatar Museums. His art analyses industrial development and the impact of new building on the vernacular cityscape.
Ben's photographs were taken during walks in empty construction sites and abandoned areas. In his images, old equipment and discarded materials take on new meaning as relics of past activity, testament to the industrial and natural forces that shaped them. Removed from their original context, their scale and materiality become ambiguous and suggestive of analogous but very different objects more familiar to us from other aspects of our daily lives.
