On 18 July we’ll be putting on two free online film screenings as part of our exhibition "As They See Us. A Portrait of Russia by the Magnum Agency". You be able to enjoy the live stream of both films on our YouTube channel .
The stream will commence at 20:00 Moscow time (17:00 UTC) with the short film "Dvalemodus" (2017, 12+) by director Mattias De Craene and Magnum photographer Bieke Depoorter. This meditative work provides a snapshot of life in the Norwegian village of Skaland. Here, like everywhere in the north, the onset of winter brings with it the polar night. The wind is bitterly strong, and there is often little temptation to step outside your home. The film’s creators explore notions of confined spaces and isolation, as well as the vast and indomitable northern environment that surrounds the village. Duration: 9 minutes, no dialogue. Production and distribution by Fabian&Fred.
The short film will be followed by a screening of the documentary "3 x Magnum" (2006) at 20:15 Moscow time (17:15 UTC). The film by Andreas Monies Bøggild looks at the work of three Magnum photographers – Larry Towell, Elliott Erwitt and Alex Webb. Viewers will learn about the stories behind the photographers’ first photos, and hear their perspectives on the medium and the way they work today. Duration: 45 minutes, English (no subtitles).
