Manege Central Exhibition Hall announces the launch of the international educational programme “New Now at Manege”. The series of meetings with leading figures of the international cultural process will acquaint listeners with contemporary museum and artistic practices, and also with current aspects of the world art-scene. There will be no less than eight meetings within the programme before the end of 2019––that is, one a month.
Among the speakers are new directors of famous museums and cultural institutions, directors of recently opened cultural centers, curators. It is exactly their actions that form the cultural agenda and set the direction of development throughout world artistic culture. At the meetings, listeners can interact directly with speakers, posing their questions after the lectures.
Futuruins: Ruins of the Future / Future of the Ruins
The “Futuruins” project faces the future. A contemporary contemplator of ruin becomes the subject of reflection on how to combine concern about memory with creative action. Because of the quickening pace of life and the technology boom, the modern person cannot produce ruin, and cannot even yet imagine what the ruins of his time will be.
The design of the exhibition at the Palazzo Fortuny is created through dialogue with historical interiors. The building itself is carefully fortified with objects of Renaissance-era ruins; it has become an integral part of the exhibition and, indeed, the main attraction.
The exhibition is made up of more than 80 works from the State Hermitage Museum’s collection––works of Caspar David Friedrich; paintings from ruinists such as Hubert Robert, Giovanni Paolo Panini, and Monsu Desiderio; drawings by Ghisi, Parmigianino, Heemskerck, and Bloemaert; sketches by Cl?risseau and Houel; ancient artifacts from Palmyra and the Middle East; and finally, rare archeological finds from Siberia.
“Futuruins” curator Dimitri Ozerkov will talk about the large-scale collaboration between the State Hermitage Museum and the Palazzo Fortuny.
Participation in the meetings is free. Prior registration is required.
