CreativeMornings is a breakfast lecture series for the creative community around the world. Every month we pick up a new theme for all cities. The global theme of May is ‘REALITY’. St. Petersburg speaker is Ilya Doronchenkov, Dean of the Art History department at the European University in St. Petersburg. Ilya will be presenting his retrospective take on the status of reality in the arts. Why do some artists try to gain power over the subject matter, while others stick to imitating it? ?And how different is the way we now perceive pieces of art compared to the way their contemporaries did?

По всему миру лекции проходят на одну и ту же тему. Заявленная тема в мае — “Reality (Реальность) ”. В Петербурге ее представит декан факультета истории искусств Европейского университета, кандидат искусствоведения, Илья Доронченков. Многие уже знакомы с его серией лекций о живописи XIX века на проекте Arzamas. В Манеже Илья расскажет о том, как на протяжении веков изменялся статус реальности в искусстве. Одни художники стремились максимально реалистично отобразить окружающий их мир, другие пытались запечатлеть момент, третьи — создать новую реальность. Почему одни художники стремятся обрести власть над действительностью, тогда как другие осознанно ее имитируют? И как отличается наш взгляд на произведение искусства от того, каким его когда-то воспринимали современники?
