Since ancient times, there have been two conflicting tendencies in visual art: on one hand–an aspiration to illusory reproduction of the observable world, and on the other hand–symbolic generalization, that is, the representation of an image as an element of a conditional, symbolic system. On 6 March, historian and art critic Dmitry Severyukhin will talk about the conflict between emulation and symbolism, as well as the key to understanding contemporary art.
Entry to the event is free with prior registration.
The event takes place as part of the additional programme for the exhibition project “Beauty: plus-minus”.
