here will be guided tours of the “Christ in the Dungeon” exhibit, which is comprised of wooden, religious sculptures from 14 museums in Russia. Tours will take place daily from 21 January through 10 February — on weekdays the tours will take place at 12:00, 15:00 and 18:30, on weekends they will take place at 12:00, 16:00 and 18:30.
On the tours, visitors will learn about the proliferation of sculptures depicting the “suffering” of Christ, the links between the Russian genre with the iconographic tradition that arose in Western Europe, and the peculiarities of its emergence in different regions of Russia. In the context of the exhibit, the tours will discuss both the formation of the phenomenon of Russian wooden sculpture, as well as wood as a medium in the art of Ancient Rus.
Entry to the guided tours is granted with a ticket to the exhibit. Advance registration is required.
