Manege is set to host the final session in the spring series Neither Quite Mouse nor Frog..., which has formed part of the Growing Up Art children’s programme. The course has looked at depictions of animals in visual art from various perspectives. While previous meetings have focused on dragons, fish and birds, this one will take a closer look at other creatures and the symbolism associated with them.
Some of these animal-related symbols have retained their familiarity, while some have been lost to time. And of course, a cat is not always just a cat – they can occasionally carry underlying messages, providing a fascinating glimpse into the work of art in question when deciphered. Gods and heroes, forces for good and evil, a way of teaching a moral or pointing us in the right direction – a great deal has been depicted using animals and birds, and this “search for critters” will focus on unlocking these hidden meanings.
The meetings are led by Vladimir Korolkov, who will already be familiar to young visitors for his discussions on modern art. It will begin at 12:00 and last for an hour and a half, including the interactive part (a team game and crossword puzzle).
Advance registration on Timepad is required. The number of spaces is limited.
