Manege has revamped its educational programme for children, Growing Up Art. The project was initially conceived of as a conversation with children in their own language about the important but sometimes confusing world of art. Now, it is back in the form of an entire course. The four events taking place this spring are collectively entitled Neither Quite Mouse nor Frog..., and will focus on depictions of animals in visual art. Throughout history, people have viewed animals variously as heroes, gods, adversaries, helpers, and of course, symbols. The course will look at people’s relationship with the animal kingdom in the context of traditions and works of art. The meetings will be led by Vladimir Korolkov, who will already be familiar to young visitors for his discussions on modern art.
The first event will take place on Sunday 14 April, and will look at how the dragon has been depicted in art. It will begin at 12:00 and last for an hour and a half, including the interactive part.
Dates and topics of future course events:
21 April – the fish (The Miracle Fish-Whale)
12 May – the bird (Legs, Wings, and Tail)
19 May – searching for critters (Symbolism in Works of Art)
