On 11–12 April, Manege will hold a two-day workshop in cooperation with DRA e.V. for directors and employees of museums, theatres, and other cultural institutions which are either implementing inclusive projects, or planning to do so. Participants can register for the free event here.
Among those sharing their experience of implementing programmes for disabled visitors will be experts from the Van Gogh Museum (Netherlands), the University of Bath (UK), the Moscow Polytechnic Museum, the Anton’s Right Here Centre, and other institutions.
In the first half of the seminar, attendees will hear about ways of accommodating people with various disabilities, including how to communicate with them effectively, and how to remove anxiety during interactions. The speakers will also outline the steps to developing, creating and implementing special programmes at cultural institutions for people with disabilities.
During the practical part of the workshop, attendees will split into groups, with each one developing an adapted event programme for people with specific disabilities (vision impairment, hearing impairment, mental disorders, and motor impairment). The Manege exhibition space will serve as the basis for the exercise. A range of experts will contribute to the event, including those who themselves live with disabilities. The seminar will conclude with a presentation of the adapted programme.
The event forms part of the INKuLtur project, which aims to improve access to culture for people with disabilities.
